There are so many wonderful things available to us here in the wine country. I am constantly finding new wines, restaurants and food items worth writing about and I hope that you will enjoy my discoveries.

This blog is not just about weddings, but about what makes this part of the world such a draw; great food, excellent wine and wonderful people. I hope you enjoy reading these posts and can find yourself here, enjoying the same amazing things we do.

Another Great Restaurant

I wanted to share another great Sonoma County restaurant….Spoonbar at the H2 Hotel in Healdsburg.  I feel like I can give a qualified review now that I have been four times and each time the food, drinks and ambience have been excellent (even with a toddler joining the party!)

The restaurant and bar are located in the ground floor of H2, right on Healdsburg Avenue as you come into town.  You might think that a restaurant sharing the lobby of a popular hotel is not a great plan but it works – the energy and people watching is fabulous.  It is not a large menu but it seems to change weekly and always reflects what is fresh in the market.  Even though I am more of a wine drinker, I have taken notice of the amazing creations that are coming out of the bar and have been tempted to stray from my standard glass of bubbly.

We are spoiled with the many choices we have in restaurants – here is another one to add to the list.

Katie & David

I had to share the fabulous images from Lori Palladino who shot my April 30 wedding at the St. Helena Catholic Church and beautiful Charles Krug Winery.  Please take a look at her blog post – absolutely gorgeous images and Lori is such a joy to work with.

The Back-Up Plan

It was my daughter’s birthday party this past weekend and I had planned for a French themed brunch in a park near our house.  The past two years it has been sunny and warm for her birthday so I felt confident that the weather would again cooperate and our friends and children would be playing petanque and eating their baguettes under sunny skies.

Unfortunately I was wrong…I began to watch the weather reports mid-week and knew then that I had better come up with a back-up plan.  Being an event planner does not leave me much wiggle room with friends and family, they certainly expect me to have all bases covered.

I was lucky to come across a fabulous pottery studio that was more than accommodating to my ideas and wishes and they opened two hours early on Sunday so we could have the place to ourselves.  Everyone had a fantastic time, in fact, I think my daughter had more fun painting than she would have had playing petanque and I was able to doze back to sleep at 3 AM on Sunday when I awoke to the sound of rain.

Mother's Day

I had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday.  We went out to Redwood Hill Farm for their last open house of the year. Redwood Hill Farm (http://www.redwoodhill.com/)produces some of the most delicious goat cheese and yogurt in the area.  Of course my favorite part is holding and loving the baby goats – some only one week old!

They do a wonderful job teaching the children and adults all about the farm, caring for the goats and how the cheese, yogurt and kefir are made.  This is our second visit to the farm and this time we came prepared…bubbles, prosciutto, salami, quiche and baguette to go with the delicious cheese we purchased…a very fun and relaxing Mother’s Day!

Dancing with the Stars

I had a fabulous wedding this past weekend.  The ceremony was at the St. Helena Catholic Church and the reception was at Charles Krug Winery.  The weather turned out to be exceptional for spring and the bride and groom were wonderful.

My favorite part of this wedding was the first dance.  They had met swing dancing so of course their first dance was amazing.  The bride had changed into a fun, short dress after dinner and was able to be swung about by her new husband…it was obvious that this couple didn’t just muddle through a few pre-wedding dance lessons, they were having an absolute blast and their joy was contagious.  I absolutely loved it and so enjoyed working with them and their families to plan this special day!
